GUINEA PIG  FAQs

Home GUINEA PIG  FAQs
Will my guinea pig be too hot or cold?
The Caviery is air-conditioned and set at a comfortable, constant temperature all year round. Guinea pigs are housed entirely indoors in individual pens where they are safe and secure.
My guinea pig loves the garden, do they have time outside?
Guinea pigs are housed entirely indoors to prevent exposure to extremes of heat and cold. There are play runs within the building and everyone has a daily time out for a forage and snuffle around.
My guinea pig is a fussy eater, what do you feed and how often?
Guinea pigs have continual access to food which is checked and refreshed several times a day.

We give a generous helping of a variety of vegies.   This is a mixture of leafy greens and herbs along with a small amount of carrot, capsicum, kumara as well as fresh fruits and berries for a rich source of Vitamin C.

A generous supply of good quality rye or meadow hay is always available.

We also feed an appropriate serve of Oxbow Guinea pig, our pellet of choice twice a day.   Pellets are sprinkled on the hay to provide entertainment in the forage for food.

Can I bring my own food?
As guinea pigs may be sensitive to any change in diet, we are happy to feed whatever pellets you provide.

You keep dogs and cats, won’t that upset my guinea pig?
The Caviery is a separate facility, completely enclosed and distant from the kennels and cattery.   There is absolutely no exposure to cats and dogs.

Can I bring in bedding and toys?
You are welcome to bring belongings from home.   No Gucci or Prada please, as things can disappear into the washing machine, never to be seen again!

How much does boarding cost?
Rate per calendar day varies with low to high season.   From$20 to $27.  We offer special rates for seniors, multiple pets & long-term stays.   Please email or ring for a specific quote.

What are your opening hours?
Arrival times are Monday to Saturday from 7.30am to 1pm.   We prefer boarders to arrive in the morning so we can settle them in nicely.   Departure times are 7.30am to 3pm Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 1pm Saturday.   We are closed on Sundays & public holidays.

Tour times
Feel free visit between 10.00am and 1.00pm from Monday to Saturday.   By 10 am, we have finished the daily cleaning routine and are looking spic and span – for the shortest of times until our party animals undo all the good work!!

What vaccinations are required?
There is no vaccination requirement for guinea pigs.

What happens if my guinea pig gets sick during its stay?
In Terrey Hills we have our local vet practice which provides an excellent service.   We also have an after-hours emergency vet hospital.   We will notify you or your contact person of any problem.   Should you prefer we can contact your own vet and arrange a pet transfer.

Do you provide pet transport?
For a pet taxi, contact Janet at Porter’s for Pets. Janet delivers to Sydney pet Boarding everyday from Monday to Friday.
